Sun gazing

Sun gazing and pineal gland
Sun Gazing is an ancient method of healing that originated in India about 2600 years ago with the teaching of Lord Mahavir of Jain. It is a practice of deriving nutritional energy directly the sun simply by gazing intently at it within an hour of sunrise or sunset. Objectives vary from person to person but most sungazers seek better mental and physical health along with a higher level of spiritual awareness.
Simply put, light activates the pineal gland, the gland responsible for the body’s circadian rhythm.
The pineal gland secretes melatonin and works in harmony with the hypothalamus gland which directs the body’s thirst, hunger, sexual desire and the biological clock that determines our aging process. It is also associated with the ‘third eye’ chakra whose awakening is linked to prophecy and and increased psychic awareness as consciousness ascends. When it awakens, one feels a pressure at the base of the brain.
While the physiological function of the pineal gland has been unknown until recent times, mystical traditions and esoteric schools have long known this area in the middle of the brain to be the connecting link between the physical and spiritual worlds. Considered the most powerful and highest source of ethereal energy available to humans, the pineal gland has always been important in initiating supernatural powers. Development of psychic talents has been closely associated with this organ of higher vision.
Holistic medicine recognises that light, sound, energy, vibration are all related mathematically and this can be use to treat a wide variety of conditions.
The brain needs lights to reset itself or to integrate various hormones by energizing the pineal gland where the eyes act as receptors.
[from earthclinic.com]
Seasonal Affective Disorders can be normalized by staring into a tungsten light bulb (good low wattage ones like 5 watts or 10 watts) for a couple of minutes to cure depression, etc, especially in countries where there is a light deficiency.
Whenever you are exposed to light, the body needs to reset its timing mechanism everyday, and at least for me the best times to set the the biological clock so that you will be at least energized throughout the day is to at least get the sunlight into the bedroom in early morning hours.
It is necessary even if the room does not have access to bright lights to at least install a good bright tungsten light bulb or at least buy several light fluorescent from a local aquarium shops to have full spectrum lights turned on especially during the morning hours before going to work.
Quick summary of the process
Stand barefoot on the ground (preferably not the grass). Some believe the method is to look for 1-2 minutes into white clouds, and not neccesarily directly at the sun. Others say you should stare directly into the sun (as it’s rising or setting) beginning with 10 seconds and slowly extended out to 45 mins. The idea is for your eyes to receive full light spectrum as the brain needs lights to reset itself or to integrate various hormones by energizing the pineal gland, where the eyes act as receptors.
Disclaimer
The following information is taken directly from sungazing.com
If you chose to embark upon the journey of sungazing, please heed the advice that slow and steady wins the race. I do not recommend this practice to anyone. If the sun seems or feels to bright, well then, don’t look at. If you chose to partake, be very careful, take your time, be cautious, be humble and document your progress.
To Begin
As the sun rises over the horizon simply gaze at the whole glowing ball of light for 10 seconds only. The key is to be relaxed, just like in mediation, let go of all thoughts and become immersed in the moment. Simply, look at it. No stress or strain on the face, facial muscles or eyes. Relax your jaw. Stand at peace, knees bent with your arms at your sides. Let go. If you choose to get up with the chickens, and try gazing at the rising sun. Stay relaxed and receptive for greater assimilation of the beneficial aspects of the sun’s rays. Try to become aware of what your body is feeling, how is your mental, emotional and physical state as the sun fills every atom, every electron, and every cell in your body. Feel every tissue filled with the regenerative and healing properties that the sunlight imparts on your body. You may notice an amazing increase in your overall energy as well as your physical stamina and positivism. Be aware of how the sunlight actually cleanses and rebuilds the whole of your being, your mind and thoughts, your feelings and your physical body; total rejuvenation. By completely surrendering to the suns greater power, and as the minutes of sungazing increase, the awareness of your energetic being may heighten dramatically. There is no need to maintain an unblinking, stare. Blink as and when it naturally happens, sort of like watching television. For the first few moments you look into the sun it may be very bright, after about 3-7 seconds of continuous gazing all the brightness generally goes away and you are left staring into a soft ball of pure white light; a beautiful pulsing orb. Don’t squint. If you feel yourself squinting, relax the muscles in your face and eyes. Let the light in. The more open and relaxed the muscles are in your body the more oxygen and energy is able to flow within your cells, and then more light will be allowed in. You have at your disposal an incredible amount of electricity to make things happen in your world. With the aid of sunlight, you can recharge each cell and atom to its full potential. Increase the time you gaze at the sun by a few seconds each day – say by 5 seconds or so per day, until you are comfortable and relaxed with the entire concept of staring into the sun. Once you are comfortable with the concept of sungazing feel free to increase gazing time at a constant rate of 10 seconds per day. You may find it helpful to get a watch or employ a friend to keep tabs on your staring time. Subtle slow increments of time are important for allowing for the rods and cones within the anatomical structure of the eye to adapt to the intense levels light. Increase the sungazing time by 10 seconds each day until you have reached 44 minutes, at which point you should be fully charged. At 44 minutes you are finished with the HRM’s method of sungazing. Depending on weather this may only take nine or ten months.
What to Expect
Sungazing can be used as a tool for tapping into your human potential. Some change will occur to reach these peaks; your perceptions may alter circumstances, you may begin to change from the inside out. Change can be uncomfortable. Nonetheless, when we release our physical and emotional energetic blockages these changes will become trivial relative to the incredible expansiveness of the universe. If at least three months are committed to the sungazing practice (reaching 15 minutes of staring time) some sort of change of your perception of your world will occur. We are all energetic beings, vibrating at different frequencies, so we should be comfortable with the concept that all of us are different. There may be many different reactions, sensations and experiences. Remember, whatever happens to you is perfect. It is yours and yours only. At every turn there are lessons to be learned. It may be helpful to become objective in your approach to life, awareness may prove to be an essential ingredient. Be positive and open-minded; feel all there is to feel. Sungazing causes hungers to diminish? There are many theories, all of which include understanding the power of light, and the more subtle mechanisms of the pineal gland, not to mention quantum physics. How is it possible? If you wish to read more about my experiences with the practice of sungazing feel free to check out ‘the earth was flat’.

The ultimate spiritual practice
Posted by Kit in development, inspiration on April 26, 2011
The ultimate spiritual practice, as I teach it, is facing everything and avoiding nothing. When you truly face everything and avoid nothing, you will no longer be afraid to stand tall—before your own conscience, before others, before God. This is because you are no longer hiding anything from yourself. Through this noble practice, you will cultivate integrity and discover the kind of soul-strength that only comes from fearlessly facing the truth. The instinctive defense mechanisms that the ego hides behind will crumble, and your self and soul will become a transparent vehicle through which the evolutionary impulse can work in this world.

Disidentification exercise
Posted by Kit in development, exercises on April 9, 2011
Simply repeat the following statement slowly and thoughtfully
I have a body, and I am not my body. I have emotions, and I am not my emotions. I have a mind, and I am not my mind. I have many roles that I play, and I am not my roles. I am a centre of pure self-consciousness and will.
This exercise is most effective if you practice it daily, ideally shortly after waking up in the morning.; think of it as a symbolic second awakening.
Self-empowerment exercise
Posted by Kit in development, exercises on April 9, 2011
Ask yourself the following questions and write down your answers
- What is a difficult or troubling situation in my life?
- What payoffs or benefit do I get from keeping it like it is?
- What costs do I pay for keeping it like it is?
- How am I creating or allowing it to be like it is?
- What am I pretending not to know?
- What do I want?
- WHat actions could I take and what requests could I make to get it?
- When will I do that?
Releasing negative emotions
Posted by Kit in development, exercises, healing on April 9, 2011
Part of what makes negative emotions so painful is our tightening against them. Try this simple practice to help maintian openness.
To begin, think of a negative feeling that you resist (such as anger, jealousy, sadness or fear). Next recall you you feel standing in a hot shower – the stream of hot water cascading over your body. Use your felt memoray to actually recreate the expansion, relaxation and openness of that experience in your body.
Now bring this same sense of bodily relaxation to feeling that negative feeling you resist. Notice how your body relaxes and expands, and in that bigger space, the stuck feeling can now start to move. It wiggles around and starts to flow through you – and out. When you remove the interference to the flow of emotions, like leaves on a river, they stay with your briefly and soon move around the bend.

“Awareness” iPhone application
Posted by Kit in development, exercises on March 27, 2011
I recently downloaded this pretty cool application for iPhone called “Awareness“. It says
The AWARENESS application is the first tool to use mobile technology to randomly intercept your daily routine, and prompt you to get in touch with what you are feeling; taking you out of your worries and bringing you to the present moment.
I’ve been using it for about 3 weeks now and it really does help me get in touch with the present moment and bring me back to “now” when I’m caught up in something negative. It gives you a pie-chart of your results over the last day/week/month so at a glance you can see how happy/sad etc you generally are. For $5 it’s a pretty cool tool.
Their list of features:
- A gentle reminder sound will intercept your routine, habitual thoughts and feelings throughout the day
- Avoids interrupting your iCal meetings
- Brief video clips guide you back to the present moment
- 400 inspirational quotes tied to what you are feeling
- Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly reports give you insight into which activities lead to specific feelings
- Reveals how you distract yourself from unpleasant feelings and how you can constructively free yourself from them
- Works with or without a network connection
- No advertisements
- All data is kept private and stored only on your iPhone
Relationships and growth
Posted by Kit in development, healing, relationships on March 26, 2011
[P94] Someone with whom we have a lifetime’s worth of lessons to learn is someone whose presence in our lives forces us to grow. Sometimes it represents someone with whom we participate lovingly all our lives, and sometimes it represents someone who we experience as a thorn in our side for years, or even forever. Just because someone has a lot to teach us, doesn’t mean we like them. People who have a lot a teach us are often the ones who reflect back to us the limits of our own capacity to love, those who consciously or unconsciouly challenge our fearful positions. They show us our walls. Our walls are our wounds – the places we feel we can’t love any more, can’t connect any more deeply, can’t forgive past a certain point. We are in each others lives in order to help us see where we most need healing, and in order to help us heal.
[P93] Relationships are assignments. They are part of a vast plan for our enlightenment, the [universe's] blueprint by which each individual soul is led to greater awareness and expanded love. Relationships are the [universe's] laboratories in which it brings together people who have the maximal opportunities for mutual growth. It appraises who can learn most from whom at any given time, and then assigns them to each other.

Deflecting bad energy
Posted by Kit in development, healing, relationships on February 20, 2011
To deflect harmful energy sent with intention, I use the metaphor of someone sending me a gift in the mail. I look at the box and decide that I don’t want to recieve the gift. So I write on the box “Return to sender with love” and put it back in the mail. I make sure I am infusing the box with love so I am not sending back harmful energies. In this way, I am not doing harm to another, but at the same time I am standing in my power and not taking on other people’s energy that is not mine.

F# and vibration
Posted by Kit in development, science on December 12, 2010
Excerpt from “What if you were God?” by Mike Handcock
The earth vibrates at 7.83Hz . This is technically the musical note C#. Could it be that the other planets in our solar system also give out a note? In fact, this study has been done. It was completed using the circumference of the planets, including our moon, and calculating their frequency based on the speed of light. The planets in our solar system are in harmony with each other.
The moon has a diameter of 2,160 miles, and a distance from us of 21,600 miles; a ratio of 1:100. It appears the same size in the sky to us as the sun, because the sun’s diameter to distance ratio is also 1:100 (the sun has a diameter of 930,000 miles while being 930,000 miles from us). This equality of ratios is seen visually when the moon passes in front of the sun in an eclipse.
More precisely, if we divide the ratios of the moon’s distance from us to the core of the sun, we get the number 43,200. This is interesting because each day we get 43,200 seconds of daytime and 43,200 seconds of night time. 43,200 is found in many other obscure areas, particularly focussed around sacred sites and the human body.
What happens if we calculate the musical notes of these planets and the sun.
Earth C#
Pluto D#
Mercury E
Jupiter F/F#
Saturn G#
Moon A
Mars #A#
Sun B
So if the solar system is in harmony, did anyone know this before us? Yes, many cultures knew of the harmony between our world and the universe. In fact several cultures over history built temples based on this knowledge.
The ratio of 43,000 in the cosmos is actually a number that appears within the ratios of the Great Pyramid. So they knew about the cosmic ratios and distances. What about musically?
The Egyptians found that F# is the basic harmonic that can bridge together all notes – and within the King’s Chamber of their pyramid, designed to elevate their dead or living initiates into the spirit world, they would musically play and sing or hum in F#. NASA acoustics expert Tom Danley took sound measurements within the Great Pyramid, also known as the Cheops Pyramid, using amplifiers and speaks in the so-called ‘relieving chambers’ above the King’s Chamber. After measuring the frequency generated (16Hz), which is below the range of human hearing, he found that it corresponded to the F# chord.
Just this year I carried out the same experiment in the King’s Chamber, and when we hummed in F# the whole chamber filled with sound. When it got to a certain resonant point, or critical mass, we could reduce the hum to a whisper and the chamber still boomed with the F# note.
In a study compiled by Susan Alexander, she examined studies of the following: The Pyramids, Our DNA, Water, Crop circles – and found the recurrence of F#.
F# is regarded with great respect by the ancient Chinese as Hu, the tone of the Earth. Native American flute makers still tune their instruments to this note to serenade Mother Earth. The notes that form a F# chord (F#, C# and A#) according to ancient Egyptian texts, are the harmonic of our planet.
Here are some further F# references:
- 11.11 is the sacred number. It equals F#, and opening gateway for mind expansion
- The speed of light – 363.83 ( F#)
- Gematria of consciousness – 175 (F#)
We’re tuned into our world
Posted by Kit in development, spirituality on September 4, 2010
A couple of nice reminders (from the Divine Matrix) that everything happens for a reason…
[P145] “Oh you wouldn’t believe the things that have happened,” she began. “What a bizarre week! First, while my boyfriend and I were watching TV on the couch, we heard a loud crash in the bathroom. When we went to see what has happened, you’ll never guess what we saw. Well, the hot-water pipe under the sink had exploded and blown the door of the vanity off it’s hinges and into the wall in front of the sink. But there’s more! When we went to the garage to get the car, there was hot water all over the floor – the water heater had blown up and water was everywhere. Then, when we backed the car out of the garage into the driveway, the radiator hose on the car exploded, and there was hot antifreeze all over the driveway!”
I listened to what this woman was saying and immediately recognised a pattern. “What was going on at home that day?” I asked. “How would you describe the relationship?”
“That’s easy” she blurted out. “It has been like a pressure cooker in that house”. Suddenly she became quiet and just looked at me. “You don’t think that the tension in our relationship has anything to do with what happened do you?”
“In my world,” I replied. “it has everything to do with what happened. We’re tuned to our world, and the world shows us physically the energy of what we experience emotionally”
–
[P 146] I called home on a Sunday afternoon, and Mom shared her concerns about Cory (a border terrier). She hadn’t been acting like herself or eating well, so my mother had taken her to a vet to see if there was a problem. During the course of the examination, a series of x-rays were made, and they showed someting that no one was expecting. For some unexplained reason, Corey’s films showed patches of small white spots throughout her lungs that shouldn’t have been there. “I’ve never seen anything like this in a dog before” the mystified vet had said. The decision was made to run further tests to see what the spots might be indicating about Corey.
While Mom was obviously worried about her dog, as I listened to her story, I became concerned for another reason. I shared the principle of resonance with her and how we’re tuned to our world, our automobiles, our homes and even our pets. I offered a number of case histories where animals have been documented to take on their owners’ medical conditions weeks or even months before the same problems were found in the bodies of the people who cared for them. My sense was that something similar was happening with Corey and my mom.
After some convincing that life is full of such messages, Mom agreed to get a checkup for herself the following week. Although she was experiencing absolutely no discomfort, and from outward appearances seh had no reason to have an examination, she agreed to schedule a physical that included a chest x-ray.
Well you can probably tell where this story is heading and the reason why I’m sharing it here. To Mom’s surprise, the x-rays revealed a suspicious spot on her lung, one that hadn’t been there during her annual physical less than a year before. After further investigation, my mother discovered that she had scar tissue on her right lung from an illness that had healed during her childhood, and the spot had become cancerous. Three weeks later, she underwent surgery and the lower third of her right lung was completely removed.
As I spoke with the doctor is the recovery room afterward, he reiterated how ‘lucky’ Mom was that the mass had been detected early on, easpecially since there were no telltale symptoms to alert her to any problems. Prior to the surgery, she’d felt great and was going through life with Corey, her sons, and her beautiful gardens with absolutely no clue that anything might be wrong.
Interesting enough, the spots in Corey’s lungs that had originally alerted us to investigate Mom’s condition completely disappeared after the surgery as well.

Clutter is stagnant energy. Every time we walk past a broken door knob or pull out a wobbly drawer, for example, an irritation is set up. The unconsious will quickly suppress it, but this suppression takes an energy toll.

A Cup of Sunlight : Discovering the Sacred in Everyday Life
I recently read “A Cup of Sunlight – Discovering the Sacred in Everyday Life” by Juliet Batten and enjoyed this passage about a simple daily ritual to remember to be present in nature and the elements.
“I decided to make a shrine in the garden, and in the centre of the lawn set up an inverted planter saucer into four, and in each I placed a symbol for one of the four directions: scarlet nasturtiums for fire in the north, and incense stick for air in the east, a tiny bowl of water in the west, and some green leaves for earth in the south.
When my seven year old granddaughter came to visit I showed her the altar, explaining how the four directions were represented. She saught on immediately, finding red berries to add for fire and then a circle of purple petals around the incense holder. She filled the water bowl and put a blue number 6 in it (the colour blue was clearly what she wanted and ingeniously took a fridge magnet to do it). Then she found variegated leaves for earth and, finally, a baby grapefruit.
Tending this altar each day became a simple task, yet it opened me up to the garden in a whole new way. When filling the water bowl I reflected on the element of water and wondered whether the plants were getting enough, or too much. I began to notice where the lawn was dry and cracked. I watched the clouds to see if they were brining rain, as spring passed nto summer. As I placed the nasturtiums, I reflected on how hard it was for the sun’s fire to enter this garden, and wondered if it was time to open things up a little. As I lit the incense I became aware of the many seeds and pioellens that travelled on the air. With the leaves, the symbol of the earth, I celebrated the green health of this place. Tending to the altar drew me down the steps and into the world of the garden.”

Why drink water
Posted by Kit in development, healing, science on June 23, 2010
[P191] The brain has been a great mystery that has perplexed many. They take it out and look at it and they can’t find anything in it, save its fluids, which are water. Water is a conductor of electrical current. The denser the water, the greater the amplification of the electrical current put through it. In the dormant portions of the brain, the fluid is denser for the purpose of amplifying the higher thought frequencies into greater electrical currents and sending them throughout the body at greater speed.
Joy begets Joy!
Posted by Kit in development, inspiration on June 23, 2010
Joy begets joy, for when you accept the joy that is present to you, that joy heightens the joy for your tomorrows and opens you up for ever greater receivership. That is why loving yourself every moment is imperitive, for when you do that, that sets the pace, if you will, for the moments to come. When you live only for the love and joy of self – by always asking yourself what makes you happy and then doing what your feelings tell you, whatever that is – those moments of ecstasy and exhilaration are recorded in the soul of your being, which will create even more moments of happiness and joy in the moments to come.

[P181] The consciousnes in your great cities is particularly limited because most of those who live there are very competitive, very time and fashion oriented, and very fearful and unaccepting of density of consciousness. What those who come here from other universes see when they look upon your cities is a dense network of multicoloured light, low frequency thoughts of a very liited consciousness displayed as light field.
The higher frequency thoughts of superconsciousness are those of Isness, being, life, harmony, oneness, ongoingness. They are the thought of love. hey are the thoughts of joy. They are the thoughts of genius.
The higher frequency thoughts can be more easily experienced in the consciousness of the wilderness, away from the stagnated thinking of man, because there, life is simple, timless, ongoing, and i compelte harmony with itself. There away from the jugement of man, yuo ca hear the heartbeat of your own knowingness.
200 ways to love the body you have
Posted by Kit in development, exercises, healing on March 4, 2010
Excerpts from 200 ways to love the body you have by Marcia Hutchinson…
5 – You are what you eat
Today, make a point of going shopping fro food in an enlightened way. As you move down the aisle deciding what to put in your shopping cart, try this exercise:
Contemplate each food you are considering following this example:
- These oranges are going to become me!
- This dead chicken is gong to become me!
- This bread is going to become me!
- This fried dough is going to become me!
- This box of chemicals and additives are going to become me!
- These fruits and vegetables are going to nourish my heart, bones and organs.
- These foods that I put in my body will influence my body chemistry, my moods, and my health – and by extension my whole life.
6 – Confronting your inner critic
Bring to mind a part of your body experience that you have difficulty accepting. It could be a body part, and area of your body, or a global aspect of your embodiment (e.g. your fleshiness, your gender, your height, your sexuality, your symptom, etc.)
Bring it to mind right now. As you focus on it become aware of the inner chatter that’s going on. listen for the voice of your Inner Critic as it judges or reprimands you for your flaws and inadequacies. Give your Critic two mintes of uncensored time to do its thing to you.
Now write down everything you remember hearing. Read the list back to yourself and, as you do, see if you get an image of this Inner Critic. Draw a picture of it. Give it a name that fits its character.
Just the act on concretising your Critic makes it easier to deal with. As you go through the day, continue to listen for your Critic’s voice. Keep a running list of the kinds of things your Critic says to you and the life situations that propel it into action. Your task for now is to become very intimate with the behaviour of this part of yourself.
18 – What does Happy feel like?
Think of a situation from your recent or distant past that made you feel happy. Recall it in detail as if it were happening to your right now. What is happening? What about it makes you feel happy?
Every emotional state is expressed as a body pattern. Without a body you would not be able to feel emotions at all. Where in your body are you experiencing happiness? What does “happy” feel like? Notice how this emotion transforms your body. Pay attention to your posture, your facial expression, the quality of your breathing, the way the world looks to you. Walk around and experience how your move. memorise the “happy” body pattern. Let it go for now, but later on today “try on” this pattern and experience how it transforms your mood of the moment.
Needing approval
Posted by Kit in development, relationships on February 1, 2010
[P78] There is something in the human psyche that feels the need for approval from everyone in their universe. Let’s remove some of the strain by suggesting that 50% of the time you will get approval, and 50% of the time you will not. This could be a great relief! You might even be able to relax enough after you had achieved your 50% to relax and enjoy your day. No one who is being themselves is going to be approved of all the time.

“Mirroring” by Mark Roske

Introduction
If there is one fragment of my being that I haven’t accepted or forgiven,
I will find that fragment in you.
You will mirror, precisely, that part of me that needs my love and attention the most.
“Love each other as I have Loved thee”.
In loving all parts of you No Matter What, I am whole and healed.
In loving all parts of me, I see nothing in you but
the purity and innocence that I am, that WE are.
“Mirroring”
I cannot be better than you,
you cannot be worse than me…
ego dies and we are free.
Beautiful child, Perfect Being,
Let me share what I am seeing.
Mirroring Spirit’s sacred song,
above the field of right and wrong.
inseparable, our hearts as one,
sharing breath and sacred Sun.
The choice is ours, transcend perception,
Owning you as my reflection.
Layers of pale perception pealed,
a view of a “you” and a “me” is healed.
Spinning cells are merged in motion,
droplets in the same vast ocean.
Barriers broken, borders gone,
our simple souls sing one grand song.
Symphonic triumph, our notes get clearer,
Honoring you as my own mirror.
